I can emphasize fully- I’m in Australia and I quit a bachelors degree in microbiology after discovering that there would be no vacancies in my field- I met with a financial planner before quitting and discovered I would be able to earn more money flipping burgers than I would as a microbiologist!
unfortunately I had waited until I was to old for a burger flipping job- once you hit 21 nobody wants to employ you!
I’ve recently married and had a baby but while I was pregnant my husbands boss fired him and we were told we both had to apply for a minimum number of jobs a week for eight weeks before we could get any financial assistance- thank god for our families or we would have been homeless. My husband is currently embroiled in a lawsuit over his dismissal from that job- they were not paying him a legal pay rate and owe him $10 000 in back wages, and they discriminated against him- he was fired for dangerous driving after a minor accident and still have in their employ a number of drivers who have been at fault in fatal road accidents.
